Two New Apple Watches for 2016

In a note to investors on Sunday, KGI analyst Min-Chi Kuo, dubbed by Business Insider as “the most accurate Apple analyst in the world”, detailed Apple’s 6-month timeline for its wearables range.

Kuo is tipping two watch models for release at Apple’s September event. The first, an iterative upgrade on the original Apple Watch, will share the same aesthetics as its older sibling, but with an upgraded TSMC processor and improved water-proofing.

The second, currently being called “Apple Watch 2” (how original), is expected to have a similar appearance to the current model, but with added inclusions such as a GPS radio and barometer for improved geolocation services. Thankfully, instead of opting to slim the watch even further, Kuo is predicting a bigger capacity battery to support these new add-ons.

More radical changes are predicted for 2018, as well as improved health and fitness applications, but for the moment, Kuo is forecasting no major changes in form factor for 2017. He is, however, raising his fiscal 2016 shipment predictions from between 7-7.5 million up to between 10-11 million units.
